2009 Five Boro Bike Tour

Hi DOGZ. It has been a long time… Too long, but the cycling season will soon be upon us so we need to start organizing. The first of the BIG bike tours is the 5 Boro Bike Tour on May 3rd. This is the event most of us rode in last year. Registration is $48 until March 13th. Please register as soon as possible since last year it filled up quickly.

Harlem Valley Ride, NOT

I couldn't get to the HV ride because my bike rack broke this morning. Actually the rack didn't break, but the No Wobble Bolt that attaches the rack to the hitch snapped. I drove every where this morning in hopes of buying a replacement, but had no luck. I guess it was better that it broke while we were still home. I'm so upset we're going to miss it. We had been looking forward to it for months.

Long Island Harbors Ride (50 miles)

Yesterday Matt Weber and I rode the 1st Annual Long Island Harbors Ride. We started in Brentwood at the Suffolk County Community College and we rode west to Melville, north along the Nassau/Suffolk County border past Cold Spring Harbor to Huntington, east to Northport and Kings Park, then south through Smithtown to the finish. We completed the 50 mile course, but it was not easy. Who knew Long Island has so many hills. The 50 mile route had a cumulative elevation gain of 3,019 feet so at times we struggled as we fought off muscle cramps and heat exhaustion. The last 15 miles, and even the last 3 miles seemed to take forever, but we rode on and eventually made it to the finish. This ride really pushed us to our limits, but we promised to come back next year better prepared and ready for the challenge.

5 Boro Bike Tour

This Sunday is the 5 Boro. I hope everyone has checked their bikes by now. Please remember to bring your tour number, vest, metrocard, water and helmet at the very least. We'll be meeting at Canal Street & 6th Avenue at 7:30am, rain or shine. I've also distributed all jerseys. See you soon!

I just want to thank all the employees that registered for our first official Sirius Cycle Team event, the Commerce Bank 5 Boro Bike Tour. We have 28 employees excited about riding the event, and will have an even bigger group when you consider all the friends & family members that are joining us. What a success I expect this to be! This is AWESOME!

It's going to be really fun, and this is just the start of the cycling season. A few of us have already discussed doing several other large events throughout the year. This translates into good "free" advertising for Sirius, good exercise for us, and a great way to build inter-department relationships. I think it's a win win for everyone.
